Rose Head Nails 50gm pack
Handmade nails were soft with smooth shanks....hard to drive and easy to pull out. But they were easy to clench and easy to crimp inside the wood using a dolly at the back....hence 'dead as a door nail'. They gripped so badly that old ironmongery needed far more fastenings than today, so old hinges have more holes.
Ours have the traditional pyramidal 'rose' head....but the metal is harder and the shanks are cut and slightly waisted for excellent grip, although more difficult to clench neatly.
Made for fitting ceiling laths and suitable for hinges or handle fixings. Cut, waisted shank gives super-firm grip, hammered head gives that slightly raised old fashioned look Approx 45 per 50grams.
